Q&A IX – Dr Mink

Please tell me; I have tested positive for HPV condylomas on my labia and in my vagina. I have had them removed three times in the last 3 months. With a laser and twice with electrocoagulation, but the Hormone Gynaecologist still finds more and more of them during the next examination. After removal, I use Genferon or Viferon 5000 suppositories for 10 days, twice a day. I use Epigen spray. I have been given Cycloferon injections. Can you tell me what else I can do? How can I get rid of them? Is it possible to plan a pregnancy (we want to), and what is the likelihood that they will reappear during pregnancy?

Answer by Dr Mink:

Lack of HPV effect from physiological treatment and test methods (laser, electrocoagulation) is not uncommon. Relapse after them occurs in > 50% of cases. Therefore, combining one of these methods with the local application of imiquimod cream is better. In this case, there are practically no relapses. In your case, you need to use this cream, which is applied only to the skin. The cream is applied once every 3 days (for example, Monday-Wednesday-Friday) at night.

One package contains 12 sachets (bags) for 4 weeks; this is quite enough. If not all are eliminated, then the maximum duration is 16 weeks. Carefully read the instructions and the drug with a good effect. Even though it is applied to the skin, the mucous membrane condylomas will also disappear. You do not need to combine this method with other symptomatic therapy. Predicting whether condylomas will appear during pregnancy is impossible, but you should not be afraid. The effect of this therapy, I think, guarantees that they will not appear during pregnancy.

Question:

Hello. A year ago, during my pregnancy, a Hormone-turbulent time, condylomas appeared. I was treated online, and they sent me to another city to remove it; I’m waiting for now, but why can’t I get pregnant? Is it because of the condylomas? Thank you for your attention.

Answer by Dr Mink:

If you have condylomas, you shouldn’t get pregnant. They grow very quickly during pregnancy some think due to Hormones. There is imiquimod cream, which effectively removes condylomas. This dosage form allows patients to treat themselves safely and effectively at home. Each package contains 12 sachets of cream, which the patient applies to the skin every other night.

Question:

Good afternoon!! Skin condylomas and papillomas can appear inside the genital tract or only outside.

Answer by Dr Mink:

Condylomas are rough comb-like growths, and papillomas are delicate papillary formations. A gynaecological examination is required because they affect the cervix, vagina, and external genitalia.

Question:

Hello! For half a year now, I have had an acute intestinal condyloma in the anus area; I did not know what it was and did not go to the HPV Test doctor until today. I decided to search the Internet, having already read a couple of sites. And I was horrified; I did not know what to do. I am 23 years old, and I am almost seven months pregnant. On the first site, I saw that you could cauterise with iodine, and I cauterised it right away. Did I do the right thing? Give me advice on what to do. What should I do? It’s very scary after watching videos about condylomas.

Answer by Dr Mink:

Treatment of condylomas with iodine is not indicated. You are 28 weeks pregnant, so there is still a lot of time ahead, and the condyloma can grow significantly before delivery. Therefore, you should visit an antenatal clinic doctor who will recommend a method for removing condylomas. The doctor may also refer you to a hospital for the procedure. There are various test methods with HPV treatment during pregnancy: conservative – condyline or surgical – laser or radio wave removal.

Question:

Hello. I have had condylomas on my labia for 3 months (only on the outside). The doctor said to remove them (they are removed with radio waves). Is this a mandatory procedure, or can the cream replace the laser, radio wave or cryo removal? And are Imiquimod and Aldara the same thing or not?

Answer by Dr Mink:

Imiquimod is an ingredient in Aldara cream (trade name). I do not recommend radio wave removal; it is crude. Laser is good; cryo is ineffective. Imiquimod is the golden mean; I recommend starting treatment with it.

Question:

I live in the Wandsworth region, and the pharmacy I went to did not ask for Aldara cream; they did not even know. How and where can I buy it?

Answer Dr Mink:

I need to figure out where to buy it in the Wandsworth region. It is in pharmacies in London; it should also be in pharmacies in London. Could you type in the search for imiquimod cream on the Internet; this is the active Hormone ingredient of Aldara test and treatment cream?

Question:

Hello. I want to consult a specialist about the treatment of condylomas. I discovered them about 3 weeks ago in the vaginal area and on the external part of the genitals. At that time, I was pregnant, but soon my pregnancy stopped. Please tell me what method is best to start treatment, and should I take any medications? Thank you very much in advance.

Answer by Dr Mink:

Condylomas that appear during pregnancy indicate an infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV). Pregnancy lowers your body’s Hormone and immune defence, activating the virus. Once your pregnancy ends, your immune system begins to recover. The body itself begins to fight the virus actively, and in many cases, the condylomas disappear without any treatment. If the number of condylomas increases or you want to eliminate them faster, I recommend imiquimod cream. Apply to the skin in the area of condyloma growth 3 times a week at night for 4 weeks.

There is no need to treat the vaginal mucosa; the therapeutic effect will come from applying it to the skin. Question: Hello! I have heard many reviews that after removing condylomas in intimate places in women with the help of Surgitron, it is impossible to lead a full sexual life (meaning after several months and even years after removal) because it is very painful!!!! Why do such consequences occur?

Answer by Dr Mink:

Surgitron is a radio wave treatment that removes warts (electrical action). After any electrical action, scars remain, disrupting the tropism (nutrition) of tissues. As a result, areas of skin or mucous membranes may become more sensitive. However, tissue nutrition improves over time, leading to a gradual disappearance of unpleasant sensations.

Question:

Papillomas are everywhere: large ones under the arms, small ones on the chest, and now they have grown on the neck how to get rid of them because where they are sometimes itches very much.

Answer by Dr Mink:

This is a viral effect. In these places, the most effective HPV treatment method is laser removal, which is effective in tests and has good cosmetic results. Unfortunately, new papillomas will appear on the skin over time, requiring new removals. These are cosmetic laser procedures.
