Q&A – Diagnosed a yeast infection.. worried it is due to the pain.
I was recently diagnosed with a yeast infection. My Mycoplasma-style symptoms started within the last 36 hours. At first, I experienced itching and redness. Soon after, like HSV, but without the blisters, I had a whitish/yellow, odourless discharge and constant burning.
The burning doesn’t worsen with urination but is more persistent. They also ran a standard STI and Herpes test, which returned negative. However, I’m experiencing symptoms that don’t seem typical for a yeast infection. These include pelvic and lower abdominal pain, fullness, and heaviness. I also have nausea and a sore throat. They mentioned I might get a cold, which could explain the sore throat.
To make it more difficult, I am also close to my period, but the abdominal and pelvic symptoms don’t quite feel like cramps. Of course, I was researching and came across mycoplasma, which seems to share many more similarities with these symptoms. I took the fluconazole less than 12 hours ago, so it makes sense. I have not seen improvement if it is yeast; I am just anxious about misdiagnosis with the discomfort and heaviness symptoms being so present when that doesnt seem typical in yeast infections.
Does this sound like your Mycoplasma experiences? Can yeast cause this type of pressure/discomfort in the pelvis? My Herpes vaginal symptoms are more the internal areas, not the outer lips etc. no dry skin either.
Answer:
Yes, I had the same issues, literally all of the same Herpes symptoms except for the sore throat, but it did give me weird back pain & a burning sensation in my chest & lower back as well. Went & got checked at Planned Parenthood twice & they think I’m crazy because all of my results keep coming back negative. Although the Herpes tests said, I had a higher white blood cell count, which would mean my body was trying to fight something off. Also, I want to add that I did some research on mycoplasma and went online to this website called Wisp, which will prescribe you antibiotics online.
I got a week of doxycycline & 1g of azithromycin. I took the doxycycline first & followed up instantly with the azithromycin(I took it all at once) & I must say I feel so much better. My discharge is still not 100% back to normal, but most of the other symptoms have mostly stopped. I was on day 3 of Doxy when they tested me for mycoplasma, so I was wondering if that could have given me a false negative, but now I would have to wait a few weeks before I can go back & ask to be tested for Mgen again.
They will probably think I’m crazy, but I know myself & I know when something is off. The only symptom that’s left is a slight sensation inside the vagina along with the discharge, but it doesn’t even feel like burning anymore & it’s not half as bad as it once was. I’m hoping most of it is gone & it’s just clearing out, but fingers crossed.
Question:
Mino as first-line?
The Mycoplasma Resistance MGen test returned positive, meaning it’s resistant to macrolides. That said, I still want to try other medications that aren’t moxi first.
Would it be okay to ask my doctor for Minocycline? And if so, should I ask for two weeks or three?
Answer:
I also can’t answer this MGen question for you, as I believe it’s a decision best made with your healthcare provider. My experience with Moxifloxacin has been more challenging than I anticipated before starting the pills. However, I had a similar struggle with Doxycycline, which even caused temporary vision loss for an hour. Medications come with risks, and weighing the costs carefully is essential. If I could go back, I might have started with Minocycline and only switched to Moxifloxacin if it didn’t work for me or if I was experiencing side effects. Wishing you the best through this—I finally cleared this frustrating STI!
Question:
Possible MGEN?
Good Morning Folks,
Writing this as I have given up hope; my mental health and anxiety have peeked to their max. I started developing some symptoms that relate to MGEN. After numerous visits and checks for the standard STI, all were negative. I convinced a doctor to finally give me a requisition for MGEN testing, which is done in Winnipeg. My Mycoplasma Home kit results came back negative, which is great, But my mind is still in doubt. I still wake up with this clear discharge and pelvic Pressure. I am lost and Don’t know what else to do… Any help or suggestions…
Answer:
Men whose tests are all negative for Herpes and Mgen can often develop symptoms as a result of anxiety because of worrying about having picked up an STI. Anxiety can tense the muscles in their pelvic floor (the muscles around the base of the penis, scrotum and around the anus. See the diagram below to become tense. This may change how urine flows and can cause irritation and discomfort.
The nerves that supply the pelvic floor muscles also supply other parts of the genitals, such as the end of the penis, the testicles and the perineum (the area between your testicles and back passage). The body can mistake the pain from the tense pelvic floor muscles and think it is coming from other places. It can also feel as though the pain is in the lower part of your tummy or make you want to pass urine more often. Or make passing urine feel more difficult.
Diagram illustrating how herpes anxiety can unconsciously cause some men to increase their pelvic floor muscle tone (they do not realise they are doing this as normally we cannot “feel” our pelvic floor). This can result in muscle spasms and urine travelling backwards into the prostate on passing water. Both can result in pain which is then experienced elsewhere in the pelvic area, e.g. the tip of the penis, testicles, perineum (area behind the testicles), lower abdomen and sometimes the inner thighs. It may also cause difficulties or pain when passing water or ejaculating. This, in turn, makes them more anxious about Herpes too, which results in making the pelvic floor tone even more tense and increasing the pain, etc.
