Jamie L. – My story
Hi guys. I have been following this Herpes blog for the past 4 months, silently reading every story, symptom, and journey, hoping and praying that it would help me deal with my experience with mgen. And it has. I’m a 25 (f), and in July of 2024, I found out I had mycoplasma genitalium. I contracted it from my ex-boyfriend, who I found out cheated on me and who gave me this as a result. Rough times.
Like many of you, I had never heard of it before. I experienced little to no symptoms and would never have thought to test for it if it weren’t for my angel of an OBGYN. There is such little literature on this beast of a bug. So, as you can imagine, I was scared; I had never had an STI before and had only ever been sexually active with 2 long-term partners. It felt like the world was closing in on me, especially when I found out it was a tough bugger to treat.
I believe by the time I found out I had it and started Herpes treatment, it was early August. Unfortunately, my pharmacy said that they did not carry Moxifloxacin, so my Dr. chose to treat me with one week of Doxycycline twice a day and then, I believe, 5 days of azithromycin. Which, as we know now, is not strong enough to kill off mgen.
Facing a Resistant Strain
I had a resistant strain of mycoplasma because one month later, in September 2024, I found out that the herpes treatment didn’t work. I was devastated. Scared that the next form of treatment wouldn’t work. Embarrassed that I was even dealing with this and scared I’d never have a normal sex life again.
My doctor found a way to get me Moxifloxacin, and so my next form of treatment was Doxycycline again 2x a day for a week, and then Moxifloxacin once a day for a week. I was nervous to take the moxi, given the side effects and the havoc it would wreck on my gut health. Luckily, aside from some nausea (mostly caused by the doxycycline), I had little to no adverse side effects from the grit.
After finishing the meds, I was still anxious, overthinking every little feeling and twinge, looking at my discharge and wondering what was normal and what wasn’t (I never had any bad odour or super distinct colour change). However, I got in my head a lot. Ladies, please, please, please, if you take anything from this story, remember that your flora will be messed up after multiple antibiotics. So any residual symptoms could very well be caused by your vaginal Herpes health being affected by the medication. Try not to panic!
Conclusion: Recovery and Hope
My mycoplasma story ended today; I received a phone call from my doctor saying we finally cured it!! For the next few months, I’ll be dedicated to taking my probiotics, eating well, and drinking lots of water to help get myself back to normal. However, I am Mgen free! There is a light at the end of the tunnel, so please do not give up hope. Advocate for yourself, and if you have the power to request to take Moxifloxacin, please do. It’s the best treatment for stubborn strains of Mgen. I wish I had been able to take it as my first form of treatment; antibiotics are no fun to be on, especially excessively.
Good luck to anyone else struggling with this tough bug. I promise it gets better. I’ll be glad if this Mycoplasma story helps comfort even one person. This platform helped me keep hope when things were tough!

Recent case. Discovered in Sept 2024. M 35
First treatment 1 (14 Sept): no test, only symptoms- 2gr of metronidazole. ( nothing to do with this) 2nd: 19 Sept – 7 days doxi, 2 per day x 100mg. – symptoms passed in the last 2 days. Reappear in the next 2 days. 3rd : 30 sept – 1gr azitromicin. 4th: After consulting a urologist doctor in Italy, he gives me Rocefin injections for 5 days.
No test has been carried out yet. He thinks he has a urinary infection. (There were no results during and after treatment.) 5th: 16 October—test carried out—blood + urine. In Spain. Twenty-one October results came in. Mgen pozitiv – 22 October start tretment 7 days doxy 100mg , 2 per day after that 5 day azitromicin . The first day, 500 mg, and then 250 every day. Symptoms passed; there was no more itching and discomfort.
There is not too much pain when peeing. The last day before I finished azithromycin, I noticed a white liquid ( one drop ) in the morning. After completing all Mycoplasma treatments, I have a small white discharge in the morning and nighttime. It’s not clear like water, like before, and it’s less. It’s still making stains on the underwear, but less. I guess it did not pass.
Overall, I’m feeling good. Like I’m cured. Maybe some lil pain in the head of the penis, just lil, and sometimes. And almost do not feel anything when I piss. Just a small amount of pain/discomfort. After 10 days, will I start again with doxy and moxi or only Moxi? The doctor suggested if I have symptoms, to take only Moxi. If not, do detailed Mycoplasma tests when I arrive at his laboratory. ( not able to go there now due to circumstances )

Success with Doxy + Azi, even with possible macrolide resistance
A doxy+azi success post because more of these are needed.
Contracted Mgen and Chlamydia from a guy I was dating who told me he got tested and was clean (spoiler, he wasn’t) back in mid-June. About a week later, I noticed a change in my smell, so I decided to go to the doctor to get checked out; I figured it was BV. I wasn’t expecting this as I trusted this guy, but I still included an MGen test because why not?
It came back positive for chlamydia, and I was given 1g of Azithromycin and was living life. However, I still felt like something was a little wrong down there. I then went back to do a TOC for the chlamydia at the end of August, and it came back negative for chlamydia but positive for M Gen.
Researching Treatment Options
I started researching the treatment and came across Doxy, Azi, and Moxi. After reading about people’s experiences with Moxi and hearing how Azi is ineffective, I lost hope. However, I was like, I will try the Doxy and Azi even though I took 1g of Azi 2 months prior, and it clearly didn’t wipe it out when it was now brewing. Nothing beats a try, and I was terrified of Moxi.
Found this subreddit, and I started to doubt my treatment plan. I was so nervous whenever I thought about taking a TOC. So, I avoided doing my TOC for over 6 weeks. So, I finally decided to do it last week because I was saying, what’s the point in avoiding…if it failed…at least I tried. I just got back the Herpes results, and I am negative!!
Tips for Supporting the Healing Process
I know some people are not as fortunate, but I can offer some Herpes tips on what I did that helped me clear this up. Also, I ate healthy and supported my immune system with a good multivitamin. And additional vitamins C and D. However, I meditated and prayed to God. But I imagined that I would get a negative Mycoplasma result, and although it was hard to believe at first, I persisted, and I started living in the reality that I was free of this. Furthermore, I also stayed off this subreddit during my treatment and about 2 or so weeks after because reading some of the things on here can stress you out, and stress weakens the immune system.
Whatever treatment you must take, guys, remember to support your healing and stop stressing, as stressing about it will not help you. Good luck to you all, and you will get through this.
